Thursday, July 6 was Premium Mortgage Night at Thunder Road International SpeedBowl located in Barre, Vermont. Thunder Road is a .25-mile oval stock car racing track that was built in 1960. Because the track is short, it has high banked corners and a turn four wall known as "The Widowmaker."
Premium Mortgage Night was a full night of racing for the Thunder Road Late Models (50 laps), Lenny's Shoe & Apparel Flying Tigers (40 laps), and Allen Lumber Street Stocks (25 laps). The night also featured the annual Marvin Johnson Memorial Non-Winners event for Street Stock drivers (19 laps).
Premium was a sponsor for the evening. As a sponsor, one of the company's role wasto present each third, second, and firstplace winner with their trophies on the race track following each race. Premium Mortgage Night at Thunder Road was a memorable evening because it was the night Vermont Governor, Phil Scott, became the first sitting governor to triumph in a Vermont stock race. Darrell Morin came in 2nd place and Ricky Roberts in 3rd.
