In this day and age, having a presence on social media has become vital for any successful business. Once you've created your social media presence, it's important to consider using each social media platform wisely.

Think about each social media platform and it's niche. Why are people drawn to this website or app? For example, Twitter limits its users to compose messages with only 140 characters. Essentially, Twitter attracts people who are looking for a quick update. To use Twitter wisely, I advise using it for sending out quick updates that don't require a lot of backstory - unless you're fairly certain most of your followers will understand what you're Tweeting about.

If you don't already have an account on Pinterest, stop what you're doing and make one. Pinterest is a website that allows its users to create endless amounts of boards. In those boards, users pin articles/images etc. that they find on the Internet. It's like a virtual bulletin board and your boards represent your interests (Pinterest--->pinning interests). For example, I have a recipes board on my Pinterest profile. Anytime I find a recipe I'd like to try I pin the article in my recipes board, which can be accessed at any time.

Pinterest can be beneficial to realtors if they know how to use it to their advantage. According to Alex York of Sprout Social, as of March 2017, 36% of Pinterest users are 18 - 29 years old and 34% are 30 - 49 years old. And the National Association of Realtors reportedmajority of first-time homebuyers are 36 years old and younger. MostPinterest users are around the same age as first-time home buyers.

Unless you have a lot of time on your hands, Pinterest may not be the best place to look for leads. The site allows you to search for pins, boards, people, or trending topics - not necessarily based on the location of pinners. That being said, use Pinterest to your advantage by creating boards your clients may find useful. I suggest making boards for paint colors/home decor, DIY projects, and even local things to do in the area. You don't have to share your Pinterest board either - you can use Pinterest as a way to keep all your findings in one place and share when appropriate.

I also suggest doing a little research for yourself on Pinterest to see what you can find in terms of content that may relevant to realtors. You may be surprised to find that there is a plethora of pins that can be very useful such as real estate infographics, marketing materials, closing gift ideas, ideas for real estate blogs and more.
